New site now online!

First off, I’d like to thank all my subscribers for following my posts so far, and look forward to your continued interest…

I spent some time over the 2008 Christmas holiday moving my web content to a common platform. The idea was to make posting and organising content easier and to make the site more friendly and interactive. The results can be found at www.jamiebullock.com. The site was created using the Movable Type publishing platform and the excellent Mid-Century template set by Jim Ramsey. So far things have been quicker, easier and better looking than with my old site, so it’s been a big win.

If you are an existing subscriber to my blog, you might find the following information helpful.

Feeds

The old postlude.co.uk site had two feeds: one for the blog and one for News. Additionally my delicious tags were aggregated into the blog feed.

There is now just one feed for the blog, which includes ‘News’ and blog posts, but not delcious links. The feed can be accessed by clicking the ‘Subscribe’ link on every page of the site, or via your web browser’s feed icon. The URI for the feed is:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/JamieBullock

The RSS feed for my delicious links can still be accessed via my delicious page:

http://delicious.com/postlude

If you really only want to get site News, you can subscribe to the ‘News’ tag, following this link.

If you were subscribed to either my old postlude ‘News’ or ‘rss’ feeds, you will now be automatically getting the new feed at jamiebullock.com. However, it is recommended that you update your feed details to the feedburner URI shown above.

Plans

The new blog will contain more reviews and less ‘essay style’ posting, starting with a roundup of 2008 later this week. I’ll also be making links with other blogs and blogging communities. There will be more images, sound and video posted, and more experimental work appearing. Generally, I hope to make the site more exciting for visitors!

I’ve just made available a ‘one off’ edition of Pd-extended with the
following additions:

    • aubio - onset/pitch detection
    • xtract~ - feature extraction
    • dssi~ - Multi-instance DSSI and LADSPA plugin host
    • ann_mlp - Multi-layer perceptron (neural network)
    • knn - k’s nearest neighbour classifier
    • csoundapi~ - Csound bindings (requires Csound 5 installed)
    • hexter plugin - DX7 emulation plugin

    Download from here

It’s OS X only, built on Pd-extended 0.40.3 and tested on 10.4 and 10.5 Intel.

This is likely to be a one-off because I’m going to work on getting this stuff into Pd-extended proper…

    Enjoy!

I was fortunate to have two papers accepted for this year’s ICMC conference. The first paper about my libxtract library, and another about libIntegra, written in collaboration with Henrik Frisk. Both papers were published in the ICMC 2007 proceedings, and the papers and abstracts can be found in the publications section of this site.

The API documentation for Braun is now available online at braun.sourceforge.net. Enjoy!

Braun 0.5.9 is now available from the Braun Sourceforge page. This is mainly a bug fix release, but does include an updated build system and a Windows build.

This is really non-news, but possibly interesting to anyone subscribed to this site’s news feed, or to my blog RSS feed. Last week I started syndicating my blog feed through Feedburner so that I could gather some stats about readership etc. The move seems to have been successful (no-one complained) and due to some Apache rewrite magic, I was able to keep the feed URI exactly the same — the transition should have been seamless. Today I also moved the Postlude News feed to feedburner, so if you are reading this through an RSS reader, you are getting the new feed!

Braun 0.5.1 Released!

Braun 0.5.1 is now available from the Braun Sourceforge page. This release includes several enhancements including smoother line drawing, adaptive y-axis scaling and a dynamic OSC namespace.

Acronym 0.9.9 is now available from the Acronym Sourceforge site. This release includes many fixes and enhancements including use of the Probstat library by Jack Diederich for efficient permutation finding. See the release notes for further details.

Braun 0.4.2 Released!

Braun 0.4.2 is now available from the Braun Sourceforge page. This is a tentative initial release to coincide with its use at ICMC 07 in Copenhagen where it will be used to demonstrate the libxtract feature extraction library.

We are pleased to announce that an Integra-related paper has been accepted for publication in the proceedings of the International Computer Music Conference this year.

The paper titled ‘libIntegra: a system for software-independent multimedia module description and storage’ is authored by Scientific working group members Jamie Bullock and Henrik Frisk, and outlines the new Integra XML file format and the software we have written for handling it.

The paper will be presented as a poster by Henrik in Copenhagen 27-31 August 2007. We hope to see you there!

Integra is now available on Sourceforge. The project URL is:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/integralive

This will eventually be the place to file support and feature requests, browse documentation and report bugs.

The SVN repository is also now based on sourceforge, and can be accessed by following the above link.
