Biography

Braun ScreenshotJamie Bullock was born in 1977 and lives in Birmingham, UK. He studied composition with Francois Evans and Andrew Deakin at Middlesex University, where he gained a First Class Honours degree in Sonic Arts in 1998. He went on to complete an M.Phil. in Musical Composition under the supervision of Jonty Harrison at the University of Birmingham in 2000. He currently works as research assistant to Lamberto Coccioli at Birmingham Conservatoire.In 1996-98, whilst working in London, he received numerous commissions to write music for dance and performance theatre. This resulted in performances at the ICA in London, The Y in Leicester, and Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In 1996 his piece The Fire Sermon was shortlisted for the Match Composition Prize.

In 1999-2000, he worked and performed with BEAST (Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre), and in 2000 his piece *eclipse*, now published by Sargasso, was included on the SPNM shortlist.

In 2004, he was awarded a research bursary by Birmingham Conservatoire, where he currently teaches on the BSc and BMus programmes. In 2006 he was appointed as Research Assistant and he is currently engaged in a number of national and international research collaborations including the European-funded Integra project.

He is involved in regular performances, both of his own compositions, and the work of others, including concerts with Ensemble Interakt. He is in the final stages of a PhD in the application of audio feature extraction in composition and performance of music with live electronics, and actively develops and maintains a range of related software.
