About Me.
I’m a researcher in music technology with a focus on interactive systems for live performance.
I’m motivated by the idea of systems with musically meaningful workflows, meticulously executed, with beautiful user interfaces. I believe this can be achieved through collaboration between researchers, designers and engineers.
I have a background in Sonic Art, Music Composition and Performance, Interactive Technology and Software Development.
In 2009, I co-founded Integra Lab at Birmingham Conservatoire, where I currently work as Senior Researcher on projects such as Integra Live, libxtract and Sonar 2D.
My aim is to make technology more accessible to musicians through user-centred research, design and development.
My interests include:
- Feature-driven interfaces
- Timbre mapping
- Timbre as controller
- Acoustic map as navigable score
- Musician-centred interaction
- User experience
- Interactive technology in music performance
- Live audio classification
- Software usability
- Human-computer interaction
- Interaction design and visualisation
- Humane interfaces for musicians
I enjoy listening to music, drinking great coffee and spending time with my wife and three beautiful children.
